Questions people ask
Does the syllabus import work on my syllabus?
It handles typical PDF syllabi with a grading table and a schedule. The AI reads it and you review the result before anything is saved. If it misses a date, add it by hand or with quick-add. The import is free, you only need an Anthropic or OpenAI key for the reading step.
Does it work for high school?
Yes. Setup asks whether you are in college or high school. High school mode counts credits instead of units, keeps a weighted GPA for Honors, AP, IB and dual enrollment next to the plain one, files graduation requirements by subject, and adds tabs for applications, activities, essays, tests and a transcript.
What happens when I go from high school to college?
Flip the switch in Settings. Nothing is deleted. Your archived terms still count, the graduation planner becomes the degree planner, and the high school tabs stay reachable as long as they hold data.
What is free, and what is Pro?
Courses, grades and GPA math, what-if targets, the timetable, deadlines and reminders, syllabus and calendar import, the planner, focus timer, habits, to-dos and flashcards, and the whole high school set are free with no time limit. Pro adds the AI chat and the MCP server.
What is CampusKit Cloud?
An optional subscription that keeps CampusKit in sync between your computers and backs your data up every week. You sign in with your email and a six-digit code. It is free for 14 days with no card, then $5 a month or $45 a year. Cloud is separate from Pro: it does not unlock the AI features, and Pro never needs Cloud. The iPhone app is on the way and will sync through Cloud too.
What happens to my data if I stop paying for Cloud?
Sync pauses and every device keeps everything it has. The cloud copy and its backups are kept for 30 days in case you come back, then deleted, with an email a week before. You can also delete your Cloud account yourself from Settings, Cloud.
Do I need to pay for AI on top of Pro?
You use your own Anthropic or OpenAI key, or sign in with an existing ChatGPT account. Pro unlocks the chat and the MCP server inside CampusKit. Model usage is billed by the provider you already use.
Does the AI write my essays?
No. Review with AI reads a draft against its prompt and tells you how squarely it answers, what works, what gets in the way, and the questions a reader is left with. It never suggests replacement wording. The words stay yours.
Where does my data live?
In one SQLite file on your own disk. The app works offline and needs no account. Without Cloud it never uploads your courses or grades: the only network calls are the update check and, if you use it, your own AI provider. If you turn on Cloud, a copy is kept on our servers so your other computers can sync it.
What is the MCP server?
CampusKit can run as a Model Context Protocol server. It exposes your courses, grades and schedule as tools any MCP client can call. Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code and Gemini CLI connect with one click from Settings.
What happens if I switch computers?
Turn on Cloud and sign in with the same email on both, or copy the database file by hand. Your Pro key activates on up to three devices.
How do I install CampusKit on Windows?
Choose Windows on the download page to open CampusKit in the Microsoft Store, then select Get or Install. Once installation finishes, open CampusKit from the Start menu.
