Import deadlines from Canvas or Google Calendar

Pull every due date out of your LMS with an .ics feed, re-sync without duplicates, and publish your own calendar back out.

Every learning management system can export a calendar feed. CampusKit imports that feed, so you get LMS integration without connecting any account.

Get the .ics file

Canvas

  1. Open Calendar in Canvas.
  2. Click Calendar feed at the bottom right of the sidebar.
  3. Copy the link, open it in your browser, and save the downloaded .ics file. You can also copy the file’s contents to paste later.

Google Calendar

  1. Open Google Calendar settings and pick the calendar in the left list.
  2. Under Integrate calendar, copy the Secret address in iCal format.
  3. Open that address in your browser and save the .ics.

Other systems (Moodle, Blackboard, Brightspace) all have an equivalent “export” or “subscribe” link that produces the same format.

Import into CampusKit

  1. Open the Calendar page and click Import .ics, or press ⌘K and choose Import .ics feed.
  2. Drop the file on the dialog, or paste the text (it starts with BEGIN:VCALENDAR).
  3. Choose which course the events belong to in the Import into course… picker. Canvas feeds usually cover every course you are enrolled in; if so, import once per course and untick the events that are not for it.
  4. Review the list. Each event becomes an assignment with the feed’s title and due time. Untick anything you do not want.
  5. Click Import.

Re-syncing later

Professors add and move deadlines all semester. Download the feed again and import it again: CampusKit recognises events it has already imported and only adds what is new, so you never get duplicates. Scores and statuses you have entered are kept.

Publishing your calendar back out

CampusKit can also produce an .ics of its own, with every deadline and your weekly class meetings, for the calendar app you already use:

  1. Open Settings, choose Data & backups.
  2. Under Export, click Export next to Calendar (.ics) and save the file.
  3. Import or open it in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook.

The export is a snapshot, so repeat it when your schedule changes.
