Syllabus import is the fastest way to set up a course. The AI reads the document, you review what it found, and one click creates the course, its meeting times, its grade categories and every dated assignment.
Before you start
- You need a semester (created in the setup wizard or from the semester switcher in the header).
- You need an AI key: Anthropic or OpenAI, added in Settings under AI. Syllabus import is a free feature; the key is only so the text can be sent to a model. See connect an AI provider.
Import
- Open the importer. Either click Import syllabus on the dashboard, or press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) and choose Import syllabus.
- Drop the syllabus PDF onto the dialog, or click it to browse. If your syllabus is a web page, a Word document or a scanned image, copy the text and paste it into the text box below instead. Anything over a few sentences is enough to start.
- Click Extract. The model reads the document and builds a draft. Nothing is saved yet.
Review the draft
The review screen shows everything the AI found, grouped the way the app stores it:
- Course: name, code and professor. Edit any of them inline.
- Meeting times: weekday, time and room, which become your timetable entries.
- Grade weights: the categories (homework, midterms, final…) and their percentages. Check that they add up to 100 and match the syllabus. Drop-lowest rules can be added later on the course page.
- Deadlines: every dated assignment, quiz, exam or project, each with a checkbox. Untick anything you do not want created.
When it looks right, click Create course + N deadlines. The course appears in Courses, the deadlines in Assignments and on the Calendar, and the meetings in the Timetable.
Tips for better results
- Dates without a year are resolved against your semester dates, so make sure the semester is set correctly first.
- Long syllabi work, but if a document mixes several sections or courses, paste only the part for your section.
- Weekly items such as “quiz every Friday” may come out as a single entry. After import, open the assignment and turn it into a recurring one; see add assignments fast.
- If the extraction looks wrong, click Back, fix the text (for example remove a table that pasted badly), and extract again.
What leaves your computer
Only the syllabus text you drop or paste is sent, directly from your machine to the provider whose key you entered. CampusKit has no server in between and stores nothing about the request beyond what you choose to create.
Next step
Once the course exists, see how the grade math works in track grades and “what do I need on the final”.
